Meet Patient of the Week – Jennifer
Growing up in a small country town, Jennifer was a tomboy from the start, and playing sports came natural to her. As she got older and entered high school, Jennifer began to notice that she was a bit of a late bloomer compared to other girls her age. While still a tomboy at heart, Jennifer was not immune however to the usual teenage insecurities and dissatisfaction. “I was sad and somewhat jealous, but because I was so active in sports, I could live with it,” said Jennifer.
College was the same story. Jennifer continued to concentrate on her athletic career and tried not to focus so much on her small size, although she admits that it gave her serous insecurities. Post-College, Jennifer took a break from sports to venture into the world of bodybuilding to compete in figure and bikini competitions. Now, the focus wasn’t just on Jennifer’s athletic ability, but also how symmetrical, feminine and proportionate her body was. As Jennifer dove headfirst into the sport of bodybuilding, the insecurities over her small breast size that were once just a small murmur in the back of her mind, were suddenly magnified tenfold.
“No one else but me really seemed to notice,” explained Jennifer, “but with the way you have to diet down to compete at such a lean body fat percentage, the barely A cup that I did have completely disappeared just in time for me to step up on stage. I literally had to have 2-3 pads sewn into my suits to make me look somewhat proportionate.”
“Although implants would make me look better for the stage, the bigger issue was my self confidence. Here I was, 26-years-old, and I still felt like that flat-chested tomboy riding my bike down the dirt road and stopping to munch on a mud pie,” Jennifer joked. “I just wanted to feel like a mature young woman in her prime. I wanted to go shopping and actually enjoy trying on clothes and bras, and on top of that, find ones that fit me properly!”
Growing up, Jennifer explained that she would joke and make light about her tiny size with her girlfriends. “When it came to dating, I always felt like I had to apologize because they were so small, talk about a confidence killer! Jennifer laughed.
“Honestly, I knew since probably the end of middle school that I wanted to have breast implants one day.” Jennifer admitted, “I finally started getting serious with researching doctors and checking out before and after pictures a couple years ago. I had scheduled a consultation with a local doctor, but it never worked out. Then I found out about Personique through a friend. I made a phone call and the next week I received the information packet, book, FAQ’s, etc. I scheduled my consultation shortly afterward and from the moment I walked in I knew this was the right decision and the right doctor for me.”
“The staff was amazing, and the atmosphere was stunningly elegant and welcoming. The surgery was scheduled and it went off without a hitch. I was very pleasantly surprised with the recovery time. I had the surgery on a Tuesday morning, I took off work on Wednesday and then I was back to work for a conference in Dallas on Thursday and Friday. Dr. Ersek and I were completely on the same page when it came to my size. I wanted definite fullness, but I also wanted to look and feel natural. The results are completely perfect! The best compliment I have received (many times) is ‘They look like they should have always been there.’ I now feel like a mature young woman, my confidence has greatly improved, my proportions are perfect for everyday life and the stage, and shopping is FABULOUS! Every shirt fits!! I finally feel like ‘me’! My competition experience has also improved, since my surgery I have placed very well and am very close to turning PRO! I really believe that the success is from a combination of the implants’ physical attributions coupled with the inner and outer confidence. Nothing shines brighter than a person who feels good in their own skin, and I feel FABULOUS!”
